our weigh logo design by eightyone design, Paignton, South Devon

Many people underestimate the importance of their logo design and think of it as an element they merely use on a website or flyer. What they don’t realise is your logo is a graphical representation of your company and can help to make or break your business. Your logo should represent your companies values, what you offer and how you deliver it.

Your logo is an embodiment of your company and can be the first thing that clients, suppliers and peers think of when they visualise your business. When you recall large corporations such as McDonalds, Coca cola, Nike and Adidas, each of their logos are clean, simple and bold and are therefore instantly recognisable. (more…)

Design for your market - not you!!!

design-for-markets

It’s a very common mistake to make and it’s difficult to get away from. It’s a battle I undertake weekly with clients, but once the penny has dropped and you truly see the logic you start thinking in a different way which changes your whole marketing strategy.

Design for your market… not for you!

Eightyone Design Christmas Cards Design

Well, time has certainly flown, it doesn’t seem that long ago we were designing our 2008 Christmas cards! Unlike last year, we were particularly organised this year and started designing our 2009 Christmas cards in early November. We were already developing Christmas artwork for clients so whilst we were in the full festive flow (with “Jingle Bells” playing loudly and mince pies and hot chocolate on hand) we thought we’d get down to work and create the Eightyone Christmas cards. How much information should be contained within your brand guidelines?

Eightyone Design brand guidelines

A little while ago I was given a project and confidently told “Don’t worry it won’t take you long, we’ve got brand guidelines” With a spring in my step I opened the email and glanced down at the lonely half page of A5 which was their guidelines. Needless to say the brand guidelines left something to be desired and consisted of a logo, the correct pantone colours, and accompanying font. As you can imagine the project took longer than hoped as they didn’t have any consistent form of branding and I wasn’t given sufficient information as to what was required. However, we got there in the end and the client was more than happy with the final piece. (more…)

Retro VW Advert Designs

If you are a regular visitor to the Eightyone Design Blog, I am sure you are aware that both Steve and I are particularly passionate about retro and vintage artwork. Team this up with our love for VW campervans (we have blogged about our own and have another blog dedicated to them as well!) and you get some of our favourite adverts ever created! These retro VW adverts are clean, simple and each one sends a clear message to their audience. The sense of continuity is spot on and their word play and copy really does set the standard (if you can put up with the sexism!).

eightyone design christmas card designs

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Tis the season! Yes it’s that special time of year again where vector snowflakes, christmas trees and stockings are in abundance in the design world! There’s no escape from the festive look and by now it feels like they have been around for too long (especially since Christmas seems to start in September)!

We thought we’d share our Christmas card design for this year with you and get your thoughts.

We want our Christmas card to be a reminder of us and therefore be quite strongly branded. We always have our contact details on the reverse and our logo repeated a couple of times.

Last years card was really quite simple as we wanted to really push the logo. We went with a silver snowflaked logo on white with our company green in the centre to add some spark to the card. (more…)
