Scissor Story Book Design

As you know we are big fans of personal projects. We think they allow designers some design freedom and stretches those creative muscles. We’ve previously blogged about the Lost Poster and Charlie’s Nursery Rhyme. Well, this next personal project is a book my mother in law wrote for Steve and his brothers when they were little. Very briefly, the story is about a small town called Bladesville where the various scissor families lived. One day Andrew Household goes missing and his neighbours Steven Sharp and Matthew Shears go to search for the missing boy. Needless to say they found him stuck in some brambles and the whole of Bladesville had to come and snip him out! (more…)

Children's illustration book design

Back in June I was honored to become God mother to my best friends Son – Charlie. So far, I have made a range of gifts for this wonderful (and very spoilt) young man – I knitted a cardigan, crochet a hat, blanket and booties, baked his Mum plenty of cakes whilst he was in her tummy and I’ve just finished my latest creation for Charlie… his very own nursery rhyme book! As a passionate graphic designer you find inspiration everywhere! However, it is hard to set aside the time a personal project needs and then there’s the dilemma of which one from the list you need to choose! (more…)

Camper van

All you regular readers of the Eightyone Design blog will know, we have  passion for VW campervans. We used to own a VW T25 (the brick!) and we recently decided that we wanted a more reliable and modern vehicle and purchased a new T5 Transporter. However, we were being ridiculously fussy with the camper interior and decided to buy a bare van and get a bespoke interior made for us. Now, there are a plethora of companies who can provide this service and from the various VW shows we’ve visited and online forums we avidly use we narrowed the search down to three companies in Devon.

Eightyone Design Christmas Cards Design

Well, time has certainly flown, it doesn’t seem that long ago we were designing our 2008 Christmas cards! Unlike last year, we were particularly organised this year and started designing our 2009 Christmas cards in early November. We were already developing Christmas artwork for clients so whilst we were in the full festive flow (with “Jingle Bells” playing loudly and mince pies and hot chocolate on hand) we thought we’d get down to work and create the Eightyone Christmas cards. Amsterdam photograph

We were lucky enough to enjoy a short trip to Amsterdam recently. We were taken back by the friendly people and outstanding sights and buildings. Wandering around the small side streets and Canals you can’t help but get inspired. If you haven’t been to Amsterdam before, we would both certainly recommend it.

We thought we’d share a brief selection of our photographs with you. (more…)
