Does your website work on mobile devices?

As you know we are keen campers here at Eightyone Design and one of the joys of camping is that you can go away on a whim. Is the sun shining this morning? Well let’s go camping then!

We often ring the campsite on route, to ensure we can get a pitch. This involves using our phone to go online, finding their website and giving them a call. So far this has never proved a problem, however this weekend on route to North Devon I logged onto a major campsite chains website only to find the main telephone number they had situated on every page was an image and I couldn’t click on it to call them direct. I know I sound like a petulant kid, but we are now in a ‘touch it and it’ll work’ age and it is so frustrating when websites don’t work as easily as they should. I’ve contacted many smaller campsites who’s websites usability is great on mobile devices so why can’t a major chain sort their site out?

Website design browser issues

Let me set the scene for you - ‘Larger’ graphic design agencies occasionally outsource work to us when they are over subscribed. I therefore potentially see every design agency as another client to which we can be that helping hand when they have too much to do and don’t know where to turn.

DLP website design

The Dawlish Learning Partnership (or DLP) is a partnership promoting learning at the heart of the community, encouraging collaboration between all community organisations involved in supporting learning. Back in March we were approached by the Dawlish Learning Partnership  to create a logo for the organisation. The process went well and we created a logo which the client (as well as ourselves) were particularly pleased with. The logo has now been applied to a range of media as such as posters and letterheads.

AIS website image

AIS is an International School based in Sydney, Australia. They provide education to the highest academic standard, and have a practical approach to teaching and learning while catering to both international and local students with its integrated Australian and American curriculum.

AIS were looking for someone to re-design their website and found us through our graphic design blog. Several Skype meetings later they accepted our proposal and had a strong brief to work to. AIS already had a team of programmers in house and required us to design and build template HTML pages that they could use to build, edit and expand the website themselves.

Why does everyone think they are a social media expert?

Why does everyone think they are a social media expert?

As I scroll through my twitter feed on any given day, I can guarantee you there will be at least a dozen people promoting their Social Media workshops. These are all aimed at helping people grow their businesses through online networking tools. Any workshop which states they can ‘grow your business’ denotes to me that they must know what they are talking about and are therefore an “expert”. (more…)
