20 Cool RSS and Twitter Icons

20 Cool RSS and Twitter Icons

Following the recent re-design of the Eightyone Design website we are now questioning the inclusion of some extras in the site design. First off is the RSS icon. Do wee need to have the RSS icon displayed on our website in order for users to instantly recognise they can subscribe to updates from us? Secondly is the Twitter icon and accompanying feed. Should we include our latest tweets on our blog? Similarly, should we also include a twitter style icon to allow people instant recognition that we are actively using Twitter?

We have spent a lot of time on the redesign of our website, opting for a clean and simple style so would we just be confusing things somewhat by including extra icons.

So I’ve been doing a little research and scouring other sites to see if and how they include their RSS icons and it returned some great results, I’ve included my favourites below:

RSS Icons

Twitter Feeds and Icons

Inevitably whatever we choose to include will have to work with the site. I think a lot of the icons above compliment the site whilst retaining their recognition.

So as a designer do you find it easy to work icons into a site? And as a user do you look for these icons in order for you to subscribe or follow?

Icons are great for recognition of RSS and Twitter, as long as they work well with the site but still stand out. As a designer, it’s not always the easiest thing to create icons that compliment the rest of the site. I was going to develop some sort of Twitter icon for my site, but never did. With my site being blue I’d need a way to make the blue bird stand out more.

Great finds on these icons though. Some of them are pretty cool and original.

Thank you for including our site here! We’ve recently changed it a little to stand out. Also, to continue with our dinosaur theme, we’re working on designing a twitter pterodactyl.

I enjoyed the collection! Great job pulling them all together.

Nice roundup – seems like many people fell in love with both technologies and now dedicate some more time to the design of those areas.

Me too by the way – thanks for picking my approach as well. :-)

Hi Dan – I agree that icons are instantly recognisable however I think it is quite tricky to get them to work well with a site.

Hi fazai38 – Glad like them!

Hi Amy – No problem love the icons! Looking forward to seeing the twitter pterodactyl!

Hi Max – No worries, your icons stood out, but they work with the site and that’s the balance that we would like to achieve.

Thank you all for your comments!

Wow this is lovely! And I agree – very inspirational, thanks for that. I have been working on a sketches of twitter icons for my blog and website. This just made me realized that I’d better sit down to designing the layout for a start. Anyway, feel free to check my twitter sketches. I will make most of them free to download as soon as they are finished. Thanks!

Very cool icons. I’m diving in myself looking for an icon to place on my site, and while I’m going to take a more straight ahead approach I thought these were all really great. Thanks for putting this list together!

Hi FilipZ – Love your sketches, they’re great! Particularly love “Blind Twitter” very funny and unique!

Hi Dave – It’s great to know what’s out there before you dive into designing your own. We still haven’t decided what we are going to do yet!

    Thanks for stopping by!
