Why I think Twitter is Awesome

OK, so I have a small confession to make. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Twitter when it launched, and that is an understatament to say the least, I actually thought that Twitter was a complete waste of time. In my eyes, the people using it were lonely individuals with way too much time on their hands, using it to tell other lonely people with too much time on their hands what they were having for lunch and ironically how busy they were. Yeah right! I don’t care that it’s your sons birthday, I don’t care that you went to Thorp Park for the day and I don’t care that you bought a new pair of jeans. I am actually busy and I don’t see how this enriches my life in any shape or form (apart from make me want to be at Thorp Park!). However, just over a year ago I was being hit left right and centre with articles about the power of Twitter with everyone telling me that I’ve got try it; “everyone else is doing it”. (more…)

Why does everyone think they are a social media expert?

As I scroll through my twitter feed on any given day, I can guarantee you there will be at least a dozen people promoting their Social Media workshops. These are all aimed at helping people grow their businesses through online networking tools. Any workshop which states they can ‘grow your business’ denotes to me that they must know what they are talking about and are therefore an “expert”. (more…)

1 Outstanding Reason I love top 10 lists!

We often submit articles to the usual design blog submission sites such as Design Bump and Design Float and receive a lot of traffic from these (thank you to the good people from these sites!). However, I have been reading a lot of blog articles lately about how to boost traffic to your blog. Many of them mention that Top 10 lists (or any number for that matter – top 20 website designs or 17 great photoshop tricks etc – you get the idea) are a great way to bring a huge amount of traffic to your design blog though social networking sites such as Digg.

I have to say that I was skeptical so you may have noticed that we have been doing some experimenting here on the eightyone design blog with the sort of posts we have been publishing lately. For those of you that haven’t read our last few blog articles, here are the last 5 titles:
